Overview
The Adhoc Activation Group feature provides the ability to automatically enable a source when it is linked to a layout or tile that is activated in the output. This eliminates the need for manual source enablement, streamlining workflows.
The activation of a source can be triggered either by enabling the layout to which the source is linked via one of its tiles or by selecting a tile with the source in the Operator Console.
Use Cases
This feature is useful when you need to enable multiple sources associated with a specific layout simultaneously. For example, if you want the output to display a specific layout containing sources that are currently disabled, enabling this Adhoc option ensures that when the layout is selected for display, all sources linked to it are automatically enabled. Similarly, when the layout is no longer selected, these sources are automatically disabled.
How to Configure
Step 1: Configure the Source
Click the menu icon.
A display of all available widgets will open.
Navigate to Sources → Sources Config.
Source Configuration will open.
Double-click an existing source to configure the Adhoc Activation Group or create a new source.
Under the Common tab, in the Miscellaneous section, locate the Adhoc Activation Group field.
Click the toggle button to enable it.
Select the resource group you created.
Click Save to save the changes.
Step 2: Configure the Device
Click the menu icon.
A display of all available widgets will open.
Navigate to System → Devices.
Device Management will open.
Double-click an existing device to configure device’s group or create a new device.
Locate the Groups field under the Label field at the top of the configuration tab.

Step 4: Activate the Layout
Via Output Configuration:
Click the menu icon.
A display of all available widgets will open.
Navigate to Outputs → Outputs Config.
Output Configuration will open.
Double-click an existing output or create a new output config.
Navigate to the Layouts tab.
Enable the layout that contains the tile linked to the desired source by clicking the toggle button.
Outcome:
All sources linked to the selected layout, previously inactive, become active on their pre-configured MCMs. This process eliminates the need to manually set up the MCMs for each source or activate the sources individually before selecting the layout.
Via Operator Console:
Click on the menu icon.
A display of all available widgets will open.
Click on Outputs → Operator Console.
Operator Console will open.
You can activate a single source with the Ad-Hoc Activation Group enabled that is currently inactive:
In the layout displayed in the Operator Console, click on the tile linked to the source you want to activate.
The Edit Tile tab will open.
In the Source Select tab, select the desired source. For sources with the Ad-Hoc Activation Group enabled that are disabled, you will see a gear symbol with a play icon to the left of the source name.
Click on the source.
The source name will turn blue, and the gear symbol will be replaced with the color of the MCM on which the source is now running.
Outcome:
The source, previously inactive, becomes active and becomes activated on the pre-configured MCM without requiring you to manually configure the MCM for that source.
You can also activate multiple sources with the Ad-Hoc Activation Group enabled at once:
At the bottom of the page, click the Layout Select button.
Choose the layout containing tiles linked to the sources with the Ad-Hoc Activation Group enabled.
Outcome:
All sources linked to the selected layout, previously inactive, become active on their pre-configured MCMs. This process eliminates the need to manually set up the MCMs for each source or activate the sources individually before selecting the layout.
Behavior of the Source
Inactive Tile:
If the source is linked to a tile that is not currently active in any output, it will appear as disabled in the Source Configuration. However, it will still display its association with the configured Resource Group and cannot be manually enabled.Active Tile:
If the source is linked to a tile that is active in an output, it will appear as enabled in the Source Configuration and active through the MCM device associated with the configured Resource Group. This indicates that the source is in use and was automatically enabled when the layout containing the tile linked to the source was activated in the output.
