Overview
Resource Groups enable you to organize specific MCS resources into distinct groups. This functionality is crucial for creating configurations in the following: DNS Configuration, NTP Configuration, PTP Configuration, and Tally Configuration, ensuring that settings are properly assigned.
Another feature of the Resource Groups is their use in configuring the Ad-Hoc Activation Group. You can find more information about this here.
MCS manages the MCMs and is designed to display all entries created for DNS, NTP, PTP, or Tally configurations within the MCS. Without resource groups, these entries would also appear in every MCM configured as a device to the same MCS. However, the goal is to assign a unique configuration for DNS, NTP, PTP, or Tally to each MCM. If an MCM uses more than one configuration for these settings, errors will occur, leading to improper functionality.
To avoid such issues, assign a separate resource group to each DNS, NTP, PTP, or Tally configuration. Then, assign the corresponding resource group to the relevant MCM. While MCS supports multiple configurations for DNS, NTP, PTP, and Tally, resource groups ensure that each MCM only accesses its specific configuration.
For further details about DNS, NTP, PTP, and Tally configurations and why each MCM requires a unique setting, refer to related articles: DNS, NTP Config, PTP Config, Tally.
Configure the Resource Group
Create A New Group and choose the Resource in the Type field.
Create Resource groups in MCS features or settings
Click on the menu icon to open the widget menu.
Choose the MCS resource where you want to configure a Resource Group. Refer to the detailed instructions below for each resource: DNS Configuration, PTP Configuration, NTP Configuration and Tally Configuration.
Add the Resource Groups in the Group Field
Add Existing Groups
Click on the Groups field to view the list of existing groups.
Select one or more groups by clicking on their names.
You can type in the search bar to find a group that starts with the letters you typed.
Add a New Group
Type a new group name and press Enter or type a comma.
If you create a new group here, you must also create a new group with the Resource type using this name.
Note:
You can add multiple groups simultaneously.
The Groups field for any resource under the Resource Group column, displays all group types: Access, Resource, and neither. This is because you can configure the current MCS resource to belong to any group type, even though the column is labeled Resource Group.
