Nielsen watermarking is a feature used by Nielsen customers to insert watermark codes into the source audio. The watermark is inaudible to the human ear but can be detected by Nielsen monitoring devices for tracking and measurement purposes. Nielsen watermarking technology can be applied to various media streams, including linear TV broadcasts, video-on-demand (VOD) services, and live streams delivered over the Internet. The watermarking process involves embedding a unique code within the audio content, which allows Nielsen to track when and where that content is being viewed.
The current implementation of Nielsen Monitoring is based on SDK for Nielsen version 1.4. All 48Khz and 24Khz audio sources are monitored for the Nielsen (TS, OTT, NDI, 2110, 2022-6, CDI). The library produces results every 60 seconds. Light-monitored channels and SD sources are monitored in a longer interval or 3 minutes (i.e., monitored for one minute and not for the next 2 minutes).
MCM9000 supports Nielsen Monitoring from version 6.2 onwards. Please follow the steps below to configure the same.
Navigate to System → System Information → System Settings. In the Nielsen Monitoring License field, provide the hash for enabling Nielsen watermarking and click on submit.
Go to System → System Information → Device Controls and do a Soft Reset to enable Nielsen watermarking contents.
Once the soft reset is done, the Nielsen related events are available under Thresholds. Please refer to Nielsen for details about Nielsen events.
To view the contents that are Nielsen watermarked, go to Sources → Statistics
